On June 24, 2017, the Ghanaian Women's Association of Georgia hosted its second annual maternity fundraising dinner to support of maternity care in Ghana. The event which was held at the Dorothy Benson Senior Center in Sandy Springs, Georgia, well-attended by the Ghanaian community in Atlanta, donors, and supporters of GWAG.
In her welcome address, the president of GWAG, Ms. Agnes Hayfron-Barnor, gave an account of the success of the 2016 fundraiser and appealed to all present to continue to fight with GWAG to "better the maternity experience in Ghana, one ward at a time." A special address was later given by Ms. Rashida Saani Nasamu, a strategic communications consultant and trained journalist and TV personality with over ten years of practice as a journalist and morning show anchor. She stressed the need for the existence of organizations like GWAG to help minimize the suffering of women in labor and delivery and pledged her support to the organization. The keynote address was given by Dr. Jacqueline Owusu, a board-certified physician, Christian motivational speaker, and an entrepreneur. Dr. Owusu thanked GWAG for taking up such a necessary cause and encouraged the organization to stay focused on its mission to better maternity care in Ghana. She also pledged her support to the organization.
